How it works
On adding a new work address in a different state or recruiting a new employee who has been allocated a work address in that state, you can access registration support within Niural.
The pricing is subject to change based on the state.
Here's an overview of the procedure:
1. Provide essential business details.
2. Niural and Middesk will verify the accuracy of the information.
3. Registration applications are normally sent within 3-5 business days.
4. Look out for registration details from Middesk in the mail.
5. Middesk can guide you through entering any data they don't handle on your behalf through Niural.
Initiate the state tax registration process
- Sign in to Niural as an employer.
- Navigate to the Company tab under Company.
- Select Jobs and Pay.
- Under “Montana Tax Setup”, click Let Niural register for you.
Note: Niural can only register for you if you don't yet have a state account already.
- Enter company information on Middesk.
- Once you submit your order, we will send you email updates regarding the status. The total cost of your order will be added to your upcoming monthly invoice.
- Check the status of your order
- Once your order is finalized, you will receive emails from both Niural and Middesk. These emails will outline the subsequent actions, including:
1. Reviewing registration information.
2. Any additional state-specific instructions.
Before your order is finalized, you can use the link provided in the state registration confirmation email from Niural to track the progress of your order.
Cancel your order
If an order is already completed, you'll need to contact Middesk to cancel.
If an order is in progress you can email us at support@niural.com.
You'll be refunded, but it can take a few business days to process.

Withholding account registration—income tax
Register with the Montana Department of Revenue
After completing your registration, expect to receive your Withholding Account ID by mail within 10 to 14 business days. Please factor in this timeframe when scheduling your initial Montana payroll.
- Start on the Montana Department of Revenue transaction portal.
- Scroll to the “Businesses” tile, and click Register for a New Tax Account.
- Find the “Register” tile, and click Register for a New Tax Account again.
- When registering, choose Withholding as your account type.
- Complete all agency tasks.
If you have questions about registration, reach out to the agency directly at (406) 444-6900. If urgent, you may be able to call the agency to ask about your Withholding Account ID just a few days after registering online.
Enter the tax account information in Niural
Once a valid Montana work address has been added in Niural for one or more employee(s), you can add your tax account information:
1. Go to the Company details section in your Niural account.
2. Click on Jobs and Pay.
3. Select Edit on Montana Tax Setup.
4. Enter your withholding account number.
If you don’t have your agency-assigned rate, use the current year's "New employer rate" from here.
Update your rate in Niural only if it differs from the current one.
Register with the Department of Labor and Industry
You should receive your unemployment account number in 7 days after registering online.
- Start your registration using the UI eServices for Employers online portal.
- Scroll to the "UI Account Registration" headline, and click Register a new UI account.
- Read the information page before proceeding, and then click Next.
- Complete all remaining prompts from the agency.
Enter the tax account information in Niural
Once a valid Montana work address has been added in Niural for one or more employee(s), you can add your tax account information:
1. Go to the Company details section in your Niural account.
2. Click on Jobs and Pay.
3. Select Edit on Montana Tax Setup.
4. Input your unemployment account number along with your tax rate. Make sure to provide only your "Contribution Rate" and exclude any mention of the "Administrative Fund Tax (AFT)" or "Total Rate" found on the Notice of Subjectivity or Welcome Letter. Account numbers consist of 7 digits and commence with either 0, 1, 2, or 3.
If you’re unsure of the correct account number or rate, verify your "Contribution Rate" (not Total Rate) by calling the agency at (800) 550-1513.

You'll need to be registered with one or more of the below agencies in order for Niural to file and pay taxes on your behalf:

Businesses that have previously processed payroll in Montana can locate their Withholding Account ID on notifications they've received from the Montana Department of Revenue, or by contacting the agency directly.

If you've run payroll in Montana previously, you can find your UI Account Number by:

Reviewing notices received from the Montana Department of Labor & Industry, or;
- Ex. “Welcome Letter” or "Form UI-5".
- Calling the agency at (800) 550-1513.
If you have an older UI Account Number that is only 6 digits, you can add a zero to the front of it when adding it to Niural.
Unemployment Contribution Rate
Your Notice of Subjectivity or Welcome Letter that you receive from Montana Department of Labor & Industry will list three rates:
- Contribution Rate—this is what you enter in Niural.

Administrative Fund Tax Rate—do not include this as part of your rate in Niural.
- We'll automatically add the AFT rate to your contribution rate to calculate your Total Rate.
- Total Rate—do not enter this in Niural.
If you’re unsure of your rate, call the agency at (800) 550-1513 to verify your “Contribution Rate” (not Total Rate). Click the Enter the tax account information in Niural dropdown to learn where to put this information in Niural.

5. Ensure that you enter only your "Contribution Rate" and refrain from including the "Administrative Fund Tax (AFT)" or "Total Rate" mentioned on the Notice of Subjectivity or Welcome Letter.
Update your rate in Niural only if it differs from the current one.
