How it works
- On adding a new work address in a different state or recruiting a new employee who has been allocated a work address in that state, you can access registration support within Niural.
- The pricing is subject to change based on the state.
- Here's an overview of the procedure:
- 1. Provide essential business details.
- 2. Niural and Middesk will verify the accuracy of the information.
- 3. Registration applications are normally sent within 3-5 business days.
- 4. Look out for registration details from Middesk in the mail.
- 5. Middesk can guide you through entering any data they don't handle on your behalf through Niural.
Initiate the state tax registration process
- Sign in to Niural as an employer.
- Navigate to the Company tab under Company.
- Select Jobs and Pay.
- Under “Connecticut Tax Setup”, click Let Niural register for you.
Note: Niural can only register for you if you don't yet have a state account already.
Enter company information on Middesk.
- Once you submit your order, we will send you email updates regarding the status. The total cost of your order will be added to your upcoming monthly invoice.
- Check the status of your order
- Once your order is finalized, you will receive emails from both Niural and Middesk. These emails will outline the subsequent actions, including:
1. Reviewing registration information.
2. Any additional state-specific instructions.
Before your order is finalized, you can use the link provided in the state registration confirmation email from Niural to track the progress of your order.
Cancel your order
If an order is already completed, you'll need to contact Middesk to cancel. If an order is in progress you can email us at support@niural.com. You'll be refunded, but it can take a few business days to process.

Withholding account registration—income tax
When you complete your online registration or register in person, your CT Tax Registration Number and tax deposit schedule will be provided to you in real time. To streamline the process in Niural, your Tax Registration number will be pre-set to the "weekly" tax deposit schedule for all customers.
- Register online with the CT Department of Revenue.
- For early registration assistance, you can visit the State of Connecticut's new online business checklist tool, which includes information from various state agencies and generates a personal checklist to help you get started.
- Scroll down on the page to see more information about registering on "myconneCT", and for a list of FAQs .
- When you're ready to begin registering, click the button stating Click here to Register a New Business.
- Complete all remaining prompts to register.
- All new CT Registration Numbers are now issued as a 12-digit number. The last 3 digits of the withholding account number are always 000.
- All previous 10, or 11-digit numbers will remain valid and do not need to be changed.

- Give Niural third-party access (TPA) to the DOR.
Enter the tax account information in Niural
Once you've successfully added a valid work address in Niural for one or more employees in Connecticut, you can proceed to add your tax account information by following these steps:
- Navigate to the Company details section and select Tax Setup.
- Scroll down to find the "Connecticut Tax Setup" heading and choose "Manage Taxes."
- Enter your Tax Registration Number. Please note that the last 3 digits of the withholding account number will always be 000.
- It's important to be aware that all newly issued CT Registration Numbers now consist of 12 digits. Any previous 10 or 11-digit numbers will remain valid and do not require any changes.
- In case you need to update your account number, please get in touch with us through the Help or Priority Support section of your account. Keep in mind that there may be tax implications if taxes have already been paid or filed using an incorrect account number.
- As a friendly reminder, you won't need to input your assigned tax deposit schedule because we automatically default to the fastest deposit schedule of “weekly” for all our valued customers.
- State unemployment insurance tax (SUI) registration and paid family and medical leave
Your company becomes liable for state unemployment insurance tax once the company has:
- Paid $1500 in wages during a calendar quarter or;
- Had at least one Connecticut-employee working for any part of the week, for 20 or more different weeks during a calendar year.
Running payroll in Niural before you're liable for SUI
If you don't currently meet the requirements mentioned above but need to run payroll, we recommend that you include the "New employer SUI tax rate" that's specific to Connecticut. Once you receive your agency-assigned rate, please ensure to promptly update it within Niural.. This will help you stay compliant and ensure accurate payroll processing.
You'll want to make sure during registration that the Connecticut Department of Labor knows when you plan to become liable—eventually, Niural will need:
- Your unemployment account number—required to file and pay taxes on your behalf.
- Your company-specific unemployment tax rate—assigned by the agency.
Register for unemployment tax
When setting up your initial ReEmployCT account, you might encounter a request for an eight-digit registration number. Please be aware that your eight-digit registration number corresponds to your previous employer account number (EAN).
- You will only use your eight-digit registration number for creating your new account in the ReEmployCT system.
- When entering your eight-digit registration number on the agency website, use the format: XX - XXXXX - 0.
- Example: If your EAN was 16533715 in the old system, then you would enter 16-53371-5.
Once you have a ReEmployCT account, most transactions will require the new ten-digit EAN. Your ten-digit EAN is your old EAN followed by two, or three trailing zeroes.
- Example: If your EAN was 6872523 in the old system, then you would enter 68-72523-0-00 for your ten-digit EAN in Niural,, or when you complete a transaction in ReEmployCT.
You should receive your CT Unemployment Number and company-specific unemployment rate instantly, followed by a confirmation letter in the mail within one week.

- Start to register your business online by using the ReEmployCT system.
- Follow the remaining prompts to complete the registration.
- If you have questions about registration, call the Employer Status Unit at (860) 263-6550.
- Give Niural third-party access (TPA) to the DOL.
Enter the tax account information in Niural
Once a valid Connecticut work address has been added in Niural for one or more employee(s), you can add your tax account information:
1. Go to the Company details section in your Niural account.
2. Click on Tax Setup.
3. Select Edit on Connecticut Tax Setup.
4. Enter the numbers in the respective rate name.
If you don’t have your agency-assigned rate, use the current year's "New employer rate" from here.
Update your rate in Niural only if it differs from the current one.
Connecticut Paid Family and Medical Leave
Niural supports Connecticut's paid family and medical leave program—we deduct 0.5% from CT employee payrolls. You still need to register, but Niural uses your FEIN to file and pay the tax, so we won't need the CT PFML account ID you'll receive once you register.
Find account numbers and rate info (if you're already registered)
If you've already registered in the state, you'll need to enter your tax account details in Niural to pay employees.
You'll need to be registered with one or more of the below agencies in order for Niural to file and pay taxes on your behalf:

You can find your Employer Registration Number and unemployment rate by:
- Checking notices received from the Department of Labor or;
- Calling the agency at (860) 263-6550.
Enter your ten-digit Employer Account Number (EAN) in Niural as ##-#####-0-00.
- If you only have a seven-digit number: Add three trailing zeros to the end.
- If you have an eight-digit number: Enter two trailing zeros at the end.
If you haven't received your assigned rate yet, please temporarily enter the new employer rate for your state in Niural. Remember to update this rate as soon as you receive the official information.
Don't forget to give Niural third-party access (TPA) to the DOL.
Paid Family and Medical Leave

How to authorize Niural with Connecticut agencies
In order for Niural to keep your Connecticut tax information up-to-date and help troubleshoot tax issues, we'll need you to authorize Niural as your third-party agent (TPA) in Connecticut. Give Niural TPA for the agencies below:
- The CT Department of Revenue (DOR) – withholding tax
- The CT Department of Labor (DOL) – unemployment tax
Authorizing Niural with the CT DOR (withholding tax)
Step one: Register on the myconneCT portal
- Sign in here.
- Click your business name.
- Under your Accounts tab, check that Withholding Tax appears.
Step two: Add “Withholding Tax” to your DOR account
Follow the steps below or reference the agency resource here.
- Sign in to your myconneCT account.
- Click your company name.
- Click More…
- Under “Taxpayer Updates”, select Add Additional Accounts and Locations.
- Read all the instructions, then click Next.
- Select the applicable Registration Reason, then click Next.
- Select Income Tax Withholding, then click Next.
- Answer the questions on the next page, then click Next.
- Click Next again.
- Sign with your name and title, then click Submit.
Step three: Verify the information in Niural matches what the agency has on file
Verify that the company information in Niural matches exactly what the agency has on file. Compare the information in Niural against your agency portal, or give the agency a call at (860) 297-5962 to confirm. Here's what information should match:
- Company Name
- FEIN
- Address
Authorizing Niural with the CT DOL (unemployment tax)
To authorize Niural, you'll first need to get set up in the new ReEmployCT agency portal. If you need help, call the agency directly at (860) 263-6470.
- Head to the ReEmployCT portal to register or create a user ID and password for already registered employers.
- If you created a CT DOL employer account before July 5, 2022, under “Existing Employers”, click Create User ID and Password.
- You'll be asked to enter the first 8 digits of your Employer Account Number (EAN). The EAN is your 7-digit registration number assigned in the old system plus a trailing zero.
- For example 12-345-67 becomes 12-34567-0.
- You'll be asked to enter the first 8 digits of your Employer Account Number (EAN). The EAN is your 7-digit registration number assigned in the old system plus a trailing zero.
- If you're a new employer to CT DOL and need to register your business, under “New Employers” click Apply Here.
- If you created a CT DOL employer account before July 5, 2022, under “Existing Employers”, click Create User ID and Password.
- Niural will handle the rest of the requirements for establishing third-party authorization (TPA).
- In the coming months, the agency will build out a self-serve TPA flow for employers, at which point this resource will be updated with the instructions for adding Niural.
