How it works
On adding a new work address in a different state or recruiting a new employee who has been allocated a work address in that state, you can access registration support within Niural.
The pricing is subject to change based on the state.
Here's an overview of the procedure:
1. Provide essential business details.
2. Niural and Middesk will verify the accuracy of the information.
3. Registration applications are normally sent within 3-5 business days.
4. Look out for registration details from Middesk in the mail.
5. Middesk can guide you through entering any data they don't handle on your behalf through Niural.
Initiate the state tax registration process
- Sign in to Niural as an employer.
- Navigate to the Company tab under Company.
- Select Tax Setup.
- Under “Mississippi Tax Setup”, click Let Niural register for you.
Note: Niural can only register for you if you don't yet have a state account already.
- Enter company information on Middesk.
- Once you submit your order, we will send you email updates regarding the status. The total cost of your order will be added to your upcoming monthly invoice.
- Check the status of your order
- Once your order is finalized, you will receive emails from both Niural and Middesk. These emails will outline the subsequent actions, including:
1. Reviewing registration information.
2. Any additional state-specific instructions.
Before your order is finalized, you can use the link provided in the state registration confirmation email from Niural to track the progress of your order.
Cancel your order
If an order is already completed, you'll need to contact Middesk to cancel.
If an order is in progress you can email us at support@niural.com.
You'll be refunded, but it can take a few business days to process.
Register for MS income and unemployment tax on your own
Income tax withholding
- Register with the Department of Revenue (DOR) online.
- Scroll to the "Apply Online" tile, and click Apply for Tax Accounts, Liquor Permits, Amusement Decals.
- Click Register a New Taxpayer.
- Complete the remaining prompts.
After registration is complete, you should receive the following instantly:
- Your withholding account number and;
- Your filing frequency
Registration for other tax types, like Sales & Use tax, may take longer. If you have questions, call the DOR at (601) 923-7700.
Enter the tax account information in Niural
Once a valid Mississippi work address has been added in Niural for one or more employee(s), you can add your tax account information:
1. Go to the Company details section in your Niural account.
2. Click on Jobs and Pay.
3. Select Edit on Mississippi Tax Setup.
4. Enter your rate here.
If you don’t have your agency-assigned rate, use the current year's "New employer rate" from here.
Update your rate in Niural only if it differs from the current one.
Unemployment tax
The majority of companies are subject to state unemployment tax obligations when they have disbursed $1,500 in wages within a calendar quarter or when they have had at least one employee working for any part of a day during each of 20 separate calendar weeks within a year. You can check if you are liable and register with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) online.
Register your company
You should receive your MDES Employer Account Number and tax rate instantly after registering online, or in 3 days if registering by mail.
- Head to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security website.
- Scroll down and click Register a New Business—or click here.
To enter your account number and rate in Niural:
- Head to the Company Details section of your account and select Tax setup.
- Scroll to the "Mississippi Tax Setup" and click edit.
- Enter your unemployment account number.

Enter your unemployment contribution rate.
- Important: Do not enter the training rate when inputting your UI contribution rate in Niural.
- Click Save.

Third party authorization (TPA) is recommended
Mississippi Department of Revenue TPA access is needed for amended returns—amendments often call for a different filing method than original returns, and this agency requires that Niural have third party access to your Mississippi Taxpayer Access Point (TAP) account in order to submit amendments on your behalf.
In order to gain TPA access to your account, Niural needs to validate:
- Your DOR account number and;

Your DOR Letter ID—you can find this:
- In your Mississippi online portal;
- On the filing requirements letter received after registering, or;
- By calling the agency at (601) 923-7700.
Make sure to add your Mississippi DOR Letter ID to your "Mississippi Tax Setup" information in your Niural account. To do so:
- Click the Company Details section and select Tax setup.
- Scroll to the "Mississippi Tax Setup" headline and select Manage taxes.
- Enter or confirm your account number and DOR Letter ID.
Find account numbers and rate info (if already registered)
Withholding account ID (tax account ID number) and filing status
If you've run payroll in Mississippi in the past, you can find your Tax Account ID Number and Withholding Filing Status by:
- Reviewing notices that you've received from the Mississippi Department of Revenue or;

Enter the tax account information in Niural
- Navigate to the Company details section of your account and select Tax setup.

- Enter your Withholding Account ID.
