How it works
On adding a new work address in a different state or recruiting a new employee who has been allocated a work address in that state, you can access registration support within Niural.
The pricing is subject to change based on the state.
Here's an overview of the procedure:
1. Provide essential business details.
2. Niural and Middesk will verify the accuracy of the information.
3. Registration applications are normally sent within 3-5 business days.
4. Look out for registration details from Middesk in the mail.
5. Middesk can guide you through entering any data they don't handle on your behalf through Niural.
Initiate the state tax registration process
- Sign in to Niural as an employer.
- Navigate to the Company tab under Company.
- Select Jobs and Pay.
- Under “South Carolina Tax Setup”, click Let Niural register for you.
- Note: Niural can only register for you if you don't yet have a state account already.
Enter company information on Middesk.
- Once you submit your order, we will send you email updates regarding the status. The total cost of your order will be added to your upcoming monthly invoice.
- Check the status of your order
- Once your order is finalized, you will receive emails from both Niural and Middesk. These emails will outline the subsequent actions, including:
1. Reviewing registration information.
2. Any additional state-specific instructions.
Before your order is finalized, you can use the link provided in the state registration confirmation email from Niural to track the progress of your order.
Cancel your order
If an order is already completed, you'll need to contact Middesk to cancel.
If an order is in progress you can email us at support@niural.com. You'll be refunded, but it can take a few business days to process.

If you have questions while you register, you can call the agency at (803) 898-5000, or email them at "WithholdTax@dor.sc.gov".
- Head to the SC Department of Revenue online.

Enter the tax account information in Niural
Once a valid South Carolina work address has been added in Niural for one or more employee(s), you can add your tax account information:
1. Go to the Company details section in your Niural account.
2. Click on Jobs and Pay.
3. Select Edit on South Carolina Tax Setup.
4. Enter your rate name here.
If you don’t have your agency-assigned rate, use the current year's "New employer rate" from here.
Update your rate in Niural only if it differs from the current one.
Initiating payroll processing in Niural before your company is subject to state unemployment insurance (SUI) tax liability:
Your company incurs liability for state unemployment insurance (SUI) tax when it has:
- Paid $1500 in wages during a calendar quarter or;
- Had at least one South Carolina employee working for any part of the week, for 20 or more different weeks during a calendar year.
Should you require payroll processing but do not yet fulfill the aforementioned conditions, Niural permits this action. However, we recommend that you temporarily incorporate the "New employer SUI tax rate" particular to South Carolina during this interim period.
Register for unemployment tax
You'll receive a six-digit Employer Account Number (EAN), commonly referred to as your State Tax ID, in 2–3 weeks after registering.
- Head to the SC Department of Employment and Workforce online.
- Click Employers.
- Scroll to the "I Need To" headline, and under "Register for an Account," click Employers.
- Review what you'll need to register, check the box to acknowledge you understand "SECTION 41-41-10", and click Next.
- Complete all remaining prompts.
Once you've completed registration with the agency, we recommend authorizing Niural as your third-party agent so we can help troubleshoot any tax issues.

Owner's wages
In the event that your business has owners or partners who are exempt from unemployment insurance liability, it is crucial to exclude their wages from the quarterly reports submitted to the state. Failure to do so might result in the rejection of the entire tax filing for the company.

If you have an online SC SUITS account, follow these instructions to view or update owner information:
- Sign in to your SC SUITS account using your personal username and password.
- Under the "Your Options" header, select Account Maintenance.
- Under the "Employer Account" header, select the Employer Maintenance link.
- Under the "Other Information" header, select the Ownership Summary tab to review the business owners you have listed with the agency.
- To add, remove, or modify the owners or their information, click Edit Ownership.
Find account numbers and rate info (if you're already registered)
If you've already registered in the state, you'll need to enter your tax account details in Niural to pay employees.
You'll need to be registered with one or more of the below agencies in order for Niural to file and pay taxes on your behalf:
- South Carolina Department of Revenue (DOR) – income tax withholding
- South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) – unemployment tax

Find your withholding tax account number or tax deposit schedule
If you've run payroll in South Carolina in the past, you can find your Withholding File Number and tax deposit schedule by:
- Reviewing notices received from the South Carolina DOR, or;
- Calling the agency at (803) 896-1450.
Unemployment account number
To locate your Employer Account Number (EAN), please review the materials you've received from the agency (Department of Employment and Workforce), such as your Employer Package, Liability Letter, or Employer Quarterly Contribution and Wages Report (Form UCE-120).
Usually, account numbers consist of six digits. However, if you happen to have a seven-digit number with a leading zero, please exclude the zero when entering your number into Niural.
Unemployment tax rate
You can find your unemployment tax rate by:
- Reviewing the “Rate Notice” from the agency, or;
- Calling the agency at (803) 737-3080, or;
- Emailing rateinfo@dew.sc.gov.
Owner's wages
If your company has owners or partners who are exempt from unemployment insurance liability, it is essential to ensure that their wages are not included in the quarterly wage reports submitted to the state. To grant Niural the authority to assist with resolving tax matters, you must authorize Niural as your third-party representative (TPA) with the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW). Niural will serve as your designated TPA for the following agency:
