Why Some Payments Undergo Additional Checks
Last updated: March 14, 2026
Occasionally, contractor payments may go through additional reviews by banks or financial institutions, especially during first-time payments, payments to new countries, or transactions that differ from previous activity.
These checks are part of standard anti-money laundering (AML), fraud prevention, and sanctions compliance procedures required by international banking regulations. As a result, the sending bank, intermediary banks, or the receiving bank may temporarily review the payment before releasing the funds.
Because these reviews are conducted by banks within the global financial system, they cannot be bypassed or expedited. In most cases, the checks are completed quickly and the payment proceeds as normal.
These safeguards help ensure that all transactions remain secure and compliant with international financial regulations.
